[MEMORY # 4 (SIGNIFICANT NEGATIVE)]
* An assassin is successful.
[Game 114 - sandcastles - Automaton | Day 144 | shareable 2/4 (metal gear)]
"The Inner Court's 'Boundary Room,' situated in the innermost section of the Imperial Palace, served as the Empress's living room. The interior of the expansive room was manmade, yet it was always filled with the scent of green woods and the chirping of the dozens of wild birds that had been released inside. (...) Beyond the rolled-up bamboo curtain, a huge door that resembled a castle gate loomed."
"Beyond the large crystal window was a huge forest, which occupied eighty percent of the Inner Court. Myriad rare animals had been set loose in it, forming a rich ecosystem. At the edge of the trees, on the opposite shore, between the Celestial Imperial Palace and the Halic Golden Horn, shone the city lights in the Methuselah district (...) The Empress frequently gazed upon the forest and city, and the strange harmony they created."
Eve remembers being in this room and all the terminology mentioned above! Not the fact that she is Empress, but definitely a sense of 'all this is mine.' She's alone--only her trusted guard and those given special permission are allowed into her private court. Most of the maintenance here is done by automata servants.
She also remembers the doorway in exploding violently, the artificial forest set ablaze around her, alarms going off, the guards unable to get to her in time. There's a couple of seconds where she tries to make her own way out, but someone cloaked and unidentifiable bursts in through the smoke, reaches out with both hands, and literally explodes her guts out through her spine before she can react.
Obviously the memory fades out as she dies in a corner, and she is in a shitton of pain, but there's a sense of resignation and honestly being a lot more distressed about the ruin of her living space and the guards that must have died outside.
+ This is the first memory Eve's gotten back where she dies! It is also an intense one so chances are she will pass out momentarily and slap teammates away from trying to look at it. Probably the only time such a memory will openly faze her in Aather, too.
+ Drastically less affected by harm coming to herself in future games; a drastically greater tendency to act as a meatshield for the rest of Jasper.
+ A lot of confusion! Is she actually permanently dead at home or what? If not, why not? What exactly was she doing that made people want her dead?
+ She identifies the assassin as a Methuselah; sometimes Methuselah have unusual abilities.
+ Confirmation that she is in a position of great power at home, though the specific nature of that power/just how ridiculously far it extends is still unclear. Suspicions that she was abusing it, though.
