EVE'S HEART
A dark veil slips over you, obscuring your vision; it’s cool and clinging, and blocks out all outside sensation. You drift downward . . . as you do, you grow more and more aware of the pulse of your own heartbeat, until it’s a ringing, unpleasant throb in your ears.
. . . after some time, it’s interrupted by a soft splash, and you feel solid rock underfoot.
((Please join #fleshbloodbone. All your character’s skills are on and uncapped; they will also have access to any items they carry normally!))

blood (by nightlight)
You're back on the beach, but the sun has set; it's dark here, cool, the moon and stars out. There's a sense of eyes watching from the shadows, and an uncomfortable tickle of emotion -- fear, but a fear so old it's accepted and almost comfortable now.
Out to sea, where the brightness of the sun obscured everything before, you can see lights and lanterns delineating the shapes of islands with buildings upon them, low and sprawling. The beach is also no longer endless: it's bordered by cliffs on both ends, forming an enclosed bay much like the one of Three's realm. If you turn around, you can also see the city you came from now, further inland.
The girl is still here; there is something in the basket on her arm you can't quite make out, but it chinks softly.
Re: blood (by nightlight)
...Whose eyes are those eyes?
[Now, the proper thing to do is to wait a minute or two for a response.]
Re: blood (by nightlight)
"The audience for a performance; the world's eyes."
Re: blood (by nightlight)
And what's the performance then? Eve?
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Then, do you think that's a good thing or a bad thing?
[Let us direct the question a bit while I try to figure out the implications of this. I miiiight be hoping for the "she was pretending to care, but stopped pretending and actually does" interpretation, though.
Since pretending to care while not caring is pretty terrible to everyone involved, I speak from experience here.]
Re: blood (by nightlight)
"...it's not bad to go from caring about some people because you feel you have to to loving them, I think."
Re: blood (by nightlight)
[I disagree with that on principle, as I've been on the other side of that my entire life.]
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Star's been on the other side, people pretending to care about her because they had to. In the end, the only thing that winds up happening is both sides giving up trying.
That just ends up hurting even more.
[It is so much easier to be straight about these things in hearts, can't I talk to hearts all the time?]
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Re: blood (by nightlight)
It's not like it's you exactly, but...
[Yeah, this is kind of a touchy issue for me. I have way too many of those, don't I?]
The giving up is the worst part. Star's not going to give up on you, so... Please don't give up on Star, either?
Re: blood (by nightlight)
You have a place in this heart, always."
Re: blood (by nightlight)
[And, let's get off this topic for now.]
So... What should Star be looking for around here? What are all the lanterns on the islands for?
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Anything else around here Star should know about, or do we just have the mausoleums and the city?
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Re: blood (by nightlight)
[Aside from writing to you and suggesting it, I mean.]
Re: blood (by nightlight)
Re: blood (by nightlight)
[I'll... try to more often, but generally people don't like you when you press them when they're not telling the truth...?]
