EVE'S HEART

A dark veil slips over you, obscuring your vision; it’s cool and clinging, and blocks out all outside sensation. You drift downward . . . as you do, you grow more and more aware of the pulse of your own heartbeat, until it’s a ringing, unpleasant throb in your ears.

. . . after some time, it’s interrupted by a soft splash, and you feel solid rock underfoot.

...It looks cramped in there. Would you please come out? We can get you something to eat.

We have a little wooden bird for you, too. Would you like it?

She doesn't answer for a long minute, but that's because she's...busy sobbing...oops. When she does pipe up, it's small and shaky:

"...my bird...?"

Yes, it's right here, see?

[holds it up]

We found it in the table.

She inches forward slightly to have a look at it.

[holding it out more so it's easier for her to look, no rush no rush]

[no rush at all :o just watching]

. . . she wipes her face on a sleeve and cautiously pokes her head out.

Would you like to hold it?

[offering it]

She nods and takes it.

The room shifts.

[uwaaaaah]

. . . this place looks a lot more homey already. But wouldn't it be nicer if you could spend time with someone else, rather than stay here alone?

She looks confused about which of you she's supposed to respond to first.

[glances at Apple and nods, not saying anything so that she can talk first]

Uhm. Why did it change?

...It smells very strongly in here too. But perhaps that's normal...do you want to stay here?

But it seems a little lonely being by yourself.

She holds the bird close.
