EVE'S HEART

A dark veil slips over you, obscuring your vision; it’s cool and clinging, and blocks out all outside sensation. You drift downward . . . as you do, you grow more and more aware of the pulse of your own heartbeat, until it’s a ringing, unpleasant throb in your ears.

. . . after some time, it’s interrupted by a soft splash, and you feel solid rock underfoot.

You're on a cobbled road. This area contains fog, so thick you can barely see two feet in front of you. You can see at least one lamp burning -- this road must be lined with them -- but it's not really strong enough to cut through the fog.

A girl who looks like Eve is in front of you, dressed in white and silver garb that looks military in nature. She's streaked and spattered with blood, most of it dry, and her eyes seem oddly blank.

She springs directly at you.

She ducks and rolls, trying to get around him -- she seems faster than the Eve in the cave, and more singleminded.

The fog is burning away around Mogget, but slowly.

And what's your function, little mouse? To fight threats? You won't find me such easy prey.

[lashes out again, trying to trip her; he doesn't seem to need to see behind him to do so]

She doesn't answer. She leaps over his limb, a gun in her hand, point straight at the heart of him, and pulls the trigger --

Misfire.

[flares brighter again, that acrid smell washing over her.]

Find a sword fast, if you think it will help.

[collapses back into white fire, running along the ground towards her as if across oil and leaving the orange of true flame behind him.]

The fire he leaves sputters, and doesn't seem to want to catch -- but it does catch, if erratically.

She hurls the useless gun at him and gets moving, leading him on a chase; a series of metallic clicking sounds coming from her body all the while.

[I. I hope that body isn't mechanical, if he gets close it's not going to work out super well. CHASING FASTER THAN A HORSE CAN RUN, leaving as much fire in his wake as he can, weaving in between the lamps to see if he bumps into anything in the fog.]

She isn't falling apart, but she seems to be shedding metal as she goes, debris of weapons, all mechanical --

He's catching up.

[tries to trip her again, roaring up behind her even faster.]

She falls, twisting -- she does have a sword, but it's not like any of Eve's weapons are spelled --

This will end quickly.

[yeah, not savoring this one; wrapping around her as fast as possible, smothering her in fire as he savagely rips at her.]

When she dies, the area changes.
