EVE'S HEART

A dark veil slips over you, obscuring your vision; it’s cool and clinging, and blocks out all outside sensation. You drift downward . . . as you do, you grow more and more aware of the pulse of your own heartbeat, until it’s a ringing, unpleasant throb in your ears.

. . . after some time, it’s interrupted by a soft splash, and you feel solid rock underfoot.

You find that an alcove has opened where one of the legs is joined to the table. When you touch what's inside, you see a memory of four people helping to make this table: Abel and Cain and Lilith all adding their touches, Seth alternately making suggestions and helping to sand things down.

You get an impression of their dynamics: Abel scared Seth; he was brusque and an extremely angry individual, though he was gentler with Seth, listened to Cain, and was fiercely possessive of Lilith. Cain was always nice but felt oddly more distanced from Seth on a personal level; she was a little scared of him too. Lilith was their lynchpin and the maternal figure of the household, and Seth adored her and tended to hide behind her.

The whole memory screams 'family'; it also feels very worn and soft at the edges. Long, long ago . . .

For reference, it goes Abel-Seth-Lilith-Cain in the photo; Cain and Abel are clearly identical twins, except that Abel is silver-haired and scruffy, and Cain is blond and more polished.

You find some items in them: a blued-steel butterfly knife, an elaborate crucifix, and a pair of gold glasses with thin frames.

A little girl with dark hair is curled up in the last cabinet. She's also asleep . . .
